Hugh P. Morrison Scholarship Award Application
The net income from the Fund shall be used to provide scholarships to undergraduate students who are enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The scholarships shall be known as the “Hugh P. Morrison Scholarships,” and the recipients shall be selected by a committee (hereinafter called the “committee”) which is to be comprised of the following individuals: (1). Mr. David T. Larson, President of the Illinois-Wisconsin Division of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. or a successor as designated by the appropriate officials at Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.; (2). The Dean (or designee) of the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; (3). Three distinguished members of the faculty of the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as appointed from time-to-time by the Dean of the College. The existence of the Fund and the scholarships made available by the Fund shall be appropriately publicized in order to attract competitive applications for what are to be prestigious awards. The committee shall select recipients in accordance with the following guidelines and criteria: (1). Scholarship recipients shall be selected based upon academic excellence according to measures of such excellence deemed appropriate by the committee. Financial need shall be considered only as a secondary criteria. (2). Scholarship recipients shall be eligible for the renewal of awards in subsequent academic years, but only in accordance with and satisfaction of the selection criteria described herein. Scholarship recipients shall be juniors or seniors at the time of the awarding of the scholarships. In keeping with the prestigious nature of the awards, it is preferred that there be only one recipient per academic year. However, there may be more than one recipient in one academic year, through renewal or otherwise, if the committee deems it appropriate after considering the level of Fund income; the tuition, fees, and expenses associated with attendance at the University of Illinois; and the current or projected economic conditions. Nevertheless, the scholarships are intended to be substantial in nature and the committee shall structure the program such that one or a few substantial awards are given as opposed to more awards of lesser amounts. The committee shall utilize such other criteria and make such other administrative decisions as may be appropriate and necessary. At all times the scholarship program created by the Fund shall be subject to the review of the appropriate University officials and shall be administered in accordance with University rules and regulations relative to scholarships. Any income from the Fund in a given year in excess of the amounts needed for the scholarships described herein may be added to principal or held for scholarships in future years as the Foundation and University may from time to time deem appropriate.
