Frank Ashton Lowis Scholarship
The net income shall be used to provide scholarships to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The Dean of the College of Agriculture, or designee(s), shall be responsible for the selection of the scholarship recipients and the dissemination of scholarships under the terms of this Fund, subject to the review of the appropriate University officials and in accordance with the general rules and regulations adopted by the University of Illinois relative to such scholarships. The scholarships shall be known as the “Frank Ashton Lowis Scholarships.” It is the Donor’s wish, but not a requirement, that preference for scholarships under the terms of the Fund be given to students who are graduates of a high school in Christian County, Illinois. The scholarships shall be awarded in amounts as determined by the Dean of the College of Agriculture, or designee(s), but it is the donor’s strong preference that the scholarships shall be awarded in amounts adequate to provide for full tuition. Scholarships may be awarded in amounts in excess of full tuition to provide for such other fees and expenses as are deemed appropriate. The Donor’s intention is to provide scholarships in amounts adequate to offer recipients meaningful financial assistance and an incentive to excel academically. The recipients of the Frank Ashton Lowis Scholarships may be in any undergraduate class at the University of Illinois. Prior recipients shall be eligible for repeat scholarships under this Fund, but always in accordance with the selection criteria established herein and such other criteria as may be established by those responsible for carrying out the terms of the Fund. However, where high school grades are considered in the selection of recipients, then those responsible for selection shall consider the grades earned by the applicants during all of their years of high school, including their senior year. In addition to any other conditions and selection criteria contained herein, the following selection criteria shall be used: Academic merit; those attributes, such as leadership, good citizenship, motivation, and commitment, which are likely to identify individuals who will make significant contributions to Agricultural fields. Those responsible for the awarding of scholarships under the terms of this fund shall give the greatest weight to the above selection criteria and, secondarily, may consider other criteria as deemed appropriate.
