Henry Joseph and Emma McCloskey Grein Scholarships

Marjorie Pryor Grein’s belief in the importance of educational excellence at the University of Illinois is the reason for plans that at her death the principal in the Charitable Gift Annuity shall become an endowment at the University of Illinois Foundation. The net income shall be used to provide scholarships and to support fellowships as specified below: Two-thirds (2/3) of the annual net income shall be divided into five (5) equal parts and used to provide scholarships and fellowship support based on the following criteria. Scholarships and fellowship support shall be awarded to: full-time students enrolled at the University of Illinois; seniors and/or graduate students who have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) prior to receiving the scholarship of 4.0 (5.0=A) or above; students who are of high moral character and have records of being good citizens; students who have demonstrated commitment to the professions for which they are preparing. It is the donor’s wish that financial need be considered when selecting scholarships recipient(s). Recipient(s) of scholarships and fellowship support shall be considered for scholarships and fellowship support in succeeding years provided they continue to meet the criteria. It is the donor’s wish that scholarships and fellowship support be a minimum of one thousand dollars, totaling five thousand dollars for all five scholarships/fellowships. When two-thirds of the annual earnings exceed five thousand dollars, the amount in excess of $5,000 shall be added to the principal of the fund, until such time as two-thirds of the annual earnings reach $10,000, at which time two scholarships and increased fellowship support shall be awarded in each of the five categories set forth herein. As net income increases in $5,000 increments, the same procedure shall be followed for future scholarships and fellowship support. The “Henry Joseph and Emma McCloskey Grein Scholarships” recipients shall be known as the “Henry Joseph and Emma McCloskey Grein Scholars.” Students who receive scholarships shall be enrolled in academic study programs in the College of Agriculture, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and preparing for careers in agriculture. Decisions as to the students who shall receive the scholarships, the number of scholarships to be awarded annually, and the amount of each scholarship (based on the preceding guidelines) shall be determined by the Dean, College of Agriculture, or designee(s).
