Hugh R. and Sylvia K. McMaster ACES Scholarships
The Fund shall be used to provide one or more scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The scholarships shall be awarded to sophomore, junior, and senior students who would NOT, based upon class rank, high school GPA, ACT scores and high school activities, be eligible to receive the Jonathan Baldwin Turner Merit Scholarships. The scholarships shall be based upon student’s character, likelihood of success both at the University of Illinois and as productive citizens thereafter. The recipients shall exhibit a strong work ethic in pursuit of academic achievement and demonstrate a potential for commercial and personal success after graduation. These factors shall take precedence rather than solely previous academic success. These scholarships are intended to provide the recipients with an incentive for future success rather than solely rewards for good grades. The purpose of these scholarships is to recognize the “brave” type individuals rather than the “Chief” type individuals. There is no requirement for financial need. The dean of the college of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, or designee, shall determine the recipient, amount, and timing of the scholarship to be awarded, subject to the approval of the appropriate University officials. Scholarship awards shall be known as the “Hugh R. and Sylvia K. McMaster ACES Scholarships” and shall be appropriately recognized. In administering the Fund, the Foundation may pay over to the University of Illinois all or part of the net income upon the certification by the University of Illinois that said net income will be applied by it in accordance with the purposes and restrictions designated herein.
